The Comics

The stories published on 'The Comics Level' are totally original and exclusive, and have been authored by internationally renowned artists. All the comics have been created to take full advantage of the technology behind 'The Comics Level', which allows to take storytelling to a higher level of narrative, visuals and interaction.

The Authors

Juan Diaz Canales

Juan Diaz Canales

Born in Madrid in 1972, Juan is considered one of the most important writers on the current comic scene. Being a fanatic of comics since an early age, he starts Fine Arts School by the time he reaches 18.

His debut in animation comes in 1996 when founding the company Tridente Animation, together with Teresa Valero, Angel Martin and Juan Carlos Moreno. The company dedicates to script writing and development for series and animation films. Here indeed, arises the opportunity to work for the American and European markets.

As a result of the relationship forged in Tridente Animation with the artist Juanjo Guarnido, in 2000 Juan starts a successful career as comic writer with the launch of Blacksad, a thriller starred by zoomorphic characters, and awarded with a several prizes, highlighting an Eisner among them. Yellow, the fifth and last volume so far, has reached the figure of 220,000 copies sold, a true record for a Spanish author.

Other prominent works are Los Patricios (with the artist Gabor), Fraternity (art by José Luis Munuera), his several collaborations with the Spanish magazine Dos veces breves, and the album Usted está aquí.

Among his most immediate projects, we can find the script of the new album of Corto Maltés, Hugo Pratt's legendary character, which will return to bookstores in October 2015 with art carried out by Rubén Pellejero.

Teresa Valero

Teresa Valero

Teresa Valero was born in Madrid in 1969. Keen on drawing since childhood, she begins her career in the field of animation working as production assistant, changing shortly after her profile to artistic posts as storyboard artist and layout artist on films and TV series.

Together with Juan Diaz Canales, Angel Martin and Juan Carlos Moreno, in 1996 she founds the studio Tridente Animation, working for many American and European productions. Her first job as comic scriptwriter comes in 2008 with Brujeando, an illustrated series by the artist Juanjo Guarnido, who she meets while working in Tridente Animation.

Is precisely there where she coincides with Montse Martin, beginning together in 2011 the trilogy Curiosity shop. Her last work, We are family, represents her first incursion as comic artist.

Along her career as a comic author, Teresa has been awarded with numerous recognitions, like Best writer Award in Expocómic, Best Illustrated Album Award in the International Festival of Angers, or a nomination to the Critic Choice Awards 2014.

Ernesto Chaparro

Ernesto Chaparro

Ernesto is born in Madrid in 1987. Given his passion for drawing and super heroes cultivated since childhood, in 2006 he starts Graphic Creation Studies in ESDIP School. As a result, in 2011 and together with 13 more authors, he publishes the album El Taller. Among his most prominent works as penciler we found the The night of the living dead from the writer David Hine and published by Avatar Press.

Javier Blázquez

Javier Blázquez

Born in Madrid in 1985, being a kid Javier was always drawing, and to date he keeps doing the same. Regarding painting and illustration as a way of life, after passing through Fine Arts College and ESDIP School he works as illustrator, concept artist and animator of books, films and videogames, of those which he considers himself a true fan. Eager of new creative experiences, he actually reconciles both his work as artist in The boiler room with novel and script writing.

Nacho Güejes

Nacho Güejes

Nacho is born in Madrid in 1975 and soon shows great interest for drawing he materializes starting his studies in ESDIP School. During his 15-years career he has been part of the design and animation teams of some of the most important Spanish production, such as the videogame Comandos, or the film Planet 51, being the character design supervisor of the latter. Grandpa was a rolling Stone represents his first incursion in the world of comics.
